27/06/09 Gillingham 229/4 lost to Poole Town 4th 231/3 (6pts) Frown

Having had to scratch the game against Bridport the following week it is imperitive that we pick up as many points for the rest of the season to preserve our status in division seven. This weeks game against Poole 4th gave us the opportunity to get some much needed points on the board especially as the game took place on the "batting paradise" artificial wicket. Batting first Norm decided that a rod was the order of the day as he fished for a wide one in the first over and duly nicked it to slip. This in turn brought Jayer to the wicket and he constructed a quite brilliant century- his first for the club. He played each ball on merit hitting shots all around the ground but also showed patience when the bowling was tight. A quickfire 65 from 32 balls at the end of the innings from Emo ensured we had a respectable total of 229 on the board. We then managed to grab two early wickets but despite this our score was always going to be hard to defend with just the 10 men- let alone just 8 plus Butler after 15 overs!! We were going to need some luck but were deprived as all the "catches" kept going to Aud who duly kept dropping them- 4 in total- should have had a few more ciders mate!! Their "one shot" batsmen also somehow kept illuding the Hookins long (big?!) barrier! In the end Poole ran out comfortable winners only losing three wickets. Just hope Jayer remembered to buy skip the customary jug after the game?! On a more serious note, we are stuggling to field 11 players on saturdays at the moment and if you are able to support Gannet by playing even the odd game he would appreciate it. If its any incentive he has told me he still brings his trophy to each game to remind you of the good times!!!

03/07/09 Gillingham 172 a/o beat Parkstone 89 a/o (20pts) Laughing

This was an important game for the saturday xi, with a heavy loss and scratched match in the last two weeks, it was important not only to have a good game but also win .Batting first Gill made a solid start of 80 odd, with Tommy White and Stormin' Norm doing the buisness at at the top of the order, the partnership being broke with a doubtful run out of Tom for 59. Whilst we were scoring quite well, wickets began to fall frequently, but Norm (28) Laurance yeo(16) and Jack Peters(22) offered some good resistance. We eventually got to 141 with just two wickets left (3 really as Rich G was "held up at work" and didnt arrive till tea was served!!!!- thats all he was interested in really Rob!!) Rob and Jack were at the crease with thirty needed for maximum batting points and after batting well Jack fell to the "Gillingham shot" (who trained him Rob) but with Jonny Underdown in at 10 they saw the score up to 172 with John going with 9 balls left of the innings. In the field, Gill struck quickly, and with further good catch's from Rob and Jack, Parkstone never got going. Laurance Yeo on debut bowled 12 overs straight through and took 3-26, backed up by Rob with 3-24 and Jack 2-20. Solid fielding with well held catch's from all(well nearly all but we wont go into that, Lee had an Audley day!) made it a good day for Gill, Parkstone all out for 89. Rob would like to thank those who helped out the team, Ian, Richy G, and Lee for making the effort to contact me and offer to play saturday morning- and we better send our best wishes to Jayer and hope his groin is better by this weekend!!!!!

15/08/09 Dorchester 3rd 175 a/o beat Gillingham 163 a/o (12 pts) Frown

22/08/09 Gillingham 162 a/o lost to Bridport 2nds 165/2 (5 pts) Frown

29/08/09 Poole 4ths 106 a/o lost to Gillingham 107/5 (19 pts) Smile

A good way for the saturday team to end the season with a convincing win down at Poole. Unfortunatley it wasnt enough to save them from relegation. Gannet wishes to thank all his players for their efforts this season and hopefully next year if he can keep the same squad of players together they'll be fighting it out at the other end of the league.
